“ ignore” ? I imagine, in true Tory fashion, they have carefully taken into consideration local conditions by listening to local concerns and are moderating their actions in an adult way. Unlike certain members of the media

Not sure about that. They til recently got a bad starting pay in Scotland. In England I imagine with the more independent MATs they may be more likely to join a Union

At the end of the Guardian piece you quote from was a correction: “This article was amended on 9 March 2018. An earlier version referred to a 1,000kg car moving at 22mph exerting a force of 50kJ. That meant to say the car has 50kJ of energy. “ Clearly the author did not understand the Physics, if they failed to appreciate force is not measured in Joules, rather in Newtons.

Agreed: “Bikers rarely kill” — About two per year, a couple of well known examples are provided below but I was concerned about bikes hitting people on pavements.

“23 Aug 2017 — Cyclist Charlie Alliston guilty over pedestrian’s death … A cyclist who knocked over and killed a 44-year-old woman in east London last year … via BBC news site”

  • Feb this year: “Cyclist mowed down and killed pedestrian while speeding” via Telegraph

Originally I wrote “Its well known, that its the bikers who are dangerous”. You agree with me by writing, finally:

One cyclist knocked over a pedestrian on the prom causing injury and that was cited for months

Ironically you start with: “Hardly anybody is killed or injured by cyclists … “. Your line of “compared” to cars is the same being made by the Covid-deniers; who use statistics to play down the lives lost. I suspect when you are hit by a bike on a pavement, or crossing at the green man etc it is ZERO comfort to know it could have been a bigger chance with a car. I rest my case and wish you well

Correct “school” & ‘public playgrounds’ are different & up north have different rules. One that applies to “schools playgrounds” impacts on social distancing. Round here there is a legal minimum amount of schools playground space PER PUPIL

Letters in main section

….Ken Johnson Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire Under the influence The prime minister’s defence of Cummings shows his chief adviser is a powerful force. Surely one of the arguments for leaving the EU was to be rid of the excessive influence of unelected officials.

Jan Penn, London N3

End of a letter in “Scottish Letters”

….Ken Johnson, Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire Misled by example I didn’t go to a public school or Oxbridge, but I was taught that anyone in a position to make rules had to be first in obeying them; and that no leader should ask their followers to do something they wouldn’t do themselves.

I really must get more up to date.

Graeme Allan, Keith, Banffshire

My comment:

Duplication (??) … by mis-editing or are these from some Remoaner template. One benefit of Cummings gate is that people can vent their spleen

…..was blocked

→ Norm Sturrock …… Oh I see you beat me to it by an hour. My first comment to this effect was blocked but my second — purely factual was let thru & 1st, I think.

Meanwhile yours suspect was blocked — this might explain the duplication in comments sometimes

FINALLY: — Scots business section

Is such necessary…. Since 2008, it (might) appear that there have been taxpayer funds already supplied on a regular basis.)
