I am not sure if your initial statement is perfectly correct. Different protagonists in the DNA decoding scenario worked at many levels. Watch the YouTube channel Web of Stories — I think its Freeman Dyson or Gerald Edelman who addresses the issue. (Sorry cannot be more precise I watched dozens and dozens of these vids — they are excellent)
when flu comes around every year
And when all schoolkids (round here) are given flu shots; many adults too. Note CV19 has no jab available yet and appears to be more dangerous if Heath Care worker death is an indicator

Now go back in time and look at advice (in Scotland) given to Care Home staff. This has been revised several times since. There has just been an unannounced Care Home inspection sent into Portree as the situation deteriorated.
Now consider, instead of the elderly, the setting with children ie Schools. Again, the (potential) vital requirement that PPE is necessary is being played down. (Besides it is in short supply still — by implication in Wales at least, as they advise against using Face Masks). But let’s address:
I really can’t think of any excuse they have for not working in an environment that very much can be controlled
Social Distancing is a clear issue — many people recognise infants will be “very much” difficult to keep 2 metres apart — never mind when they get hurt and the teacher has to explain that they cannot approach. Testing is an excuse that needs to be addressed— what happens if you believe that you have had CV19: is Anti body testing available? According to the BBC website: ”Health minister Edward Argar said the tests would mainly be used on those in the NHS and social care settings to begin with.” When would it be teachers turn — just 12 working days to June 1st.
There’s clearly more but I thought a quick reply might give you pause for breath.
“I do think the incompetent handling of Brexit and the Covid crisis by Westminster builds the case for independence..”
The criticism that Westminster has made mistakes in these past months can be equally levelled at the Scottish government. The Care Home situation, as outlined at FMQs yesterday, and the Nike conference handling in Edinburgh plus a few other items (eg Derek, GRA, ..) do not engender confidence that the “People of Scotland” would vote Yes next time.
Labour needs Scottish mps to win in Westminster.
This is true but … for (sensible) voters its usually a choice twixt two at the Ballot Box. Thus for Westminster, in Scotland, its SNP or Tory, really. Besides, despite the Cabinet led govt there I am sure people think if there is a strong Scottish party with many MPs that is more effective. One MP, however good, gets lost in the crowd, that’s one draw back of First past the Post
if Labour can get it’s act together in Scotland…
The Proportional Rep system means that as an aspiring politician there is more chance of success if you start in Scotland. And Labour, I think, is starting to get its act together: there are some good MSPs eg Jackie Baillie, Monica Lennon, … Even the Leader has improved and gives the FM a hard time at FMQs (but he needs a hair trim)
to challenge those in authority
The interviewers at the BBC are struggling with this new remote video technology. I watched Monday’s Nine and for example Jackson Carlaw, on a decent line but with slight delay was consistently distracted by interruptions. Such lack of politeness is not new has sets the polarizing tone that has become endemic in our Politics and the grand inquisitors at the BBC are mainly to blame.
It would appear from the University focus of the above that they have already spent the £75M and are back for “more”.
Summary: Lord Macpherson of Earl’s Court (Harry Hill side glance — Who ?) of Eton & Balliol and Mr Wilson, ex St Andrew & Strathclyde Universities, who chairs the Sustainable Growth Commission reporting to the First Minister of Scotland want to saddle the “People of Scotland” with masses of debt.

“Studies have shown that antibodies against Sars-Cov-2 [which causes Covid-19] develop soon after infection but there is no evidence of long-term immunity “
That would be because little time has passed since the virus showed up at the start of this year, possibly the end of last
