March 9th 2022: Gareth Roberts Lecture - Dame Sue Ion

( BTW can I suggest GGR22 for a email-title, I am appreciate that GRL shortens from Gareth Roberts Lecture but as an acronym it fails to resonate. As for 6 I doubt that that is as important as signalling the year ie next not this)

On a more positive note. I have just been listening to the BBC Radio 4 2013 episode The_Life_Scientific where “Jim Al-Khalili talks to Sue Ion about working in the nuclear industry in the dark decades post-Chernobyl, and why nuclear power has to be part of our energy mix for the future”. I was anxious as to whether the disastrous (British) nuclear power industry was a good topic, but since Oil & Gas takes a pounding, as VLSI before it — I think students should be educated on such life industrial life cycles. However despite the PC box ticking and potential come-hither title I cannot see a rush of alumni coming for such a subject that does not seem to have moved that much forward since the turn of the millenium.

Despite this, for planning purposes, I’d like to attend the lecture and any pre (or post social).
