I appreciate your textual clarity and elegant diagrams. You (primarily) address the original question about Friction force direction, by relocating the arrows to the point of action. I was on an ably led IOP Secondary-level Forces training course recently and Force diagrams caused some theoretical problems in the introductory exposition. In the subsequent practical session with trolleys/weights/pulleys, there were issues with concepts.

I like the idea of motivating teaching via Sport (& Automotive) themes but the practical aspects come back to experiments based on Coulomb’s apparatus for investigating static friction as seen in my copy of Intermediate Physics by CJ Smith; my more upto date book did not cover Force Diagrams. Anyway I operate more at the Primary level and came here to see what I could usefully transfer down the age range.
